St Vincent Cape Verde

The island of St. Vincent in Cape Verde is probably the cultural capital of the country. Several local and foreign artists, musicians, and intellectuals have the city of Mindelo as their home or favorite vacation spot.

St. Vincent also has a very active nightlife - which is no surprise since it has the second largest population among the Cape Verde islands. A yearly carnival that takes place during Ash Wednesday gives tourists one of the liveliest nights in St. Vincent. Cape Verde's islands all play host to this yearly carnival but the one in St. Vincent is considered to be one of the most lively and most entertaining. During August, a 3-day and 3-night music festival takes place on the beach of Baia das Gatas, serving as a cultural highlight for music lovers everywhere. For those who are interested in purchasing or looking at St. Vincent Cape Verde handicrafts, the Centro Nacional Artesanato in Mindelo would be the best place for you to start looking.

If you're interested in geology, volcanoes, or hiking, St. Vincent has a lot of volcanoes and elevated terrain for a nice outdoor hike. Professional windsurfers also praise St. Vincent for being a great place to surf.

Since the capital city of Mindelo served as a British refueling port, there are a lot of British influences seen in the architecture of St. Vincent in Cape Verde. But despite the foreign influences, St. Vincent Cape Verde has its own unique flavor.
